The Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for providing engineering services to develop new and maintain existing communication systems for Cleco. Defining and delivering products and services that meet customer needs by selecting the best possible approaches available within established systems.
- Prepare equipment and service specifications
- Prepare drawings for equipment field installations
- Maintain telecommunications equipment, databases, industry standards and FCC Compliance.
- Create models for new RF systems to determine, power margin, dish size, frequency requirement, viability of the hop, etc.
- Maintain and design requirements and equipment related to the Cleco Microwave system (Nokia Alcatel)
- Prepare and submit budgets for capital and O&M projects as well as track project expenditures on equipment and contractors.
- Manage network devices related to the Field area networks, devices ranging from radios, switches, routers, wireless and access points.
- Work to ensure that project change and work approvals are all verified through Cleco’s change advisory board
- Manage complexity of projects and make necessary informed decisions about project modifications to align with organizational goals
- Plan, execute, and manage two-way radio, microwave, and wireless projects
- Understand network requirements and configurations in order to design and maintain field networks
- Work without supervision and provide technical guidance when required on interpreting and applying knowledge of laws, regulations and policies in area of expertise
- Have an in-depth understanding of RF propagation properties and characteristics of the entire RF bandwidth

- Must be familiar with Wireless technologies, ranging from 6Ghz Microwave to 2.4Ghz wireless.
- Must have basic networks competencies and experience with industry standard networking protocols and technologies (OSPF, BGP, Spanning Tree, and VLANs).
- Experience with multiple Medium types for communications (IE: Fiber optic, Copper, Wireless, TDM)
- Familiarity with Tower Structure standards per ANSI/TIA-222-B thru ANSI/TIA-222-G,
- IBC and ASCE 7. Tower loading requirements and other dependencies based on the relevant standard.

Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferred Telecommunications Engineering.
- Experience preferred in microwave radio systems, ancillary systems, path engineering, and data networking concepts and technologies.
- Experience preferred in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Vizio, and Path Loss microwave engineering software
